History of the Analogical System

Stefano Benemeglio

Analogical Disciplines (Discipline Analogiche) were founded in 1965 by psychologist and researcher Stefano Benemeglio. They aim to develop human potential and improve quality of life by recognizing the importance of the unconscious mind in human behavior.

They propose that our emotional world constantly communicates both internally and externally. By learning its “language”, called the Alphabet of the Unconscious, people can interpret non-verbal signals to understand their emotional state and needs, effectively “dialoguing” with their emotions.

Traditionally, emotions were seen as inaccessible or uncontrollable. This approach claims to offer a way to better understand and manage them, rather than seeing them as unpredictable forces.

It also emphasizes that emotions are a powerful driving force behind life—fueling passion, creativity, and intelligence, but sometimes also creating conflict with rational thinking. As a result, human behavior is often viewed as a tension between rationality and emotional impulses.
